UNHEALTHY COMPETITION

Hey guys you will get something different here from now onwards. I mean I have decided that I will scribble something which I have gone through the day or week or month or hour or sec…..
In short something I found interesting enough to give my precious attention to ;-) which might be very different from my previous blogs or might be concluding on same node.

I work in so called “IT” Industry. I know the first thing which might have popped up in your mind like an irritating popup window for ad is “Money”. Lot of people outside IT industry think we get paid a lot (trust me I am underpaid) but they totally ignore the fact that we put more than 8 hours in our job. Everyone in this industry at one point spends 10-12 hours a day. Newaz that’s not the point (was just trying to see if non IT people can change their views).

My today’s blog will deal with politics or dirty games which are played in offices. Can you name a single industry where games are not played? Common one industry try it might not be very difficult for sure (but it is for me. I spend 24 hours thinking on this). No. Can’t think of any? (Join my club). Fact is office politics is being played everywhere be it central services, banking, manufacturing, glamour or IT. I have experienced similar stuff in my industry. I don’t understand why people don’t play healthy game (which means healthy competition). Every person is waiting for opportunity to pull their colleagues from climbing up not by giving competition but playing sick games. And now things changed so much that these people have guts to say in your face.

Read my experience with such person (might be interesting) but before that let me tell you what has happened. Me and my colleague are on client side (always remember all IT companies have their client outside India) working on different things totally un-related except that technology is same. Now client decided to retain me (after seeing my work) and asked him to go back (not coz of his work its better to clear that stuff) since client is going through lot of financial problems and decided to do cost cutting (what an excuse!! Must tell these clients act weird one more disadvantage of working in IT industry is you and your company are puppets in their hands – hey non IT guys hope you listening coz I said it loud enough). Since I was working on critical project they thought of retaining me. So here goes the conversation

Anonymous (really don’t want to name him after all we work in same industry and he might not believe in healthy competition but I do):- Hey you must be aware of
Me:- What?
Anonymous: - I am going back after 2 weeks
Me (in shock coz he was supposed to be here on long term and was working good I believe):- what you saying!!!! Why?
Anonymous: - well manager told me about this even I am in little shock
Well the conversation began and we came to this point
Anonymous: - You are Sagittarius right? Yeah you must be we came to your place for dinner on your b’day which was in dec
Me:- yup
Anonymous: - what are typical Sagittarian traits?
Me:- I don’t believe in all this so I have no idea.
Anonymous: - Well I guess they are very good in impressing their bosses…..
Me smiling coz I knew what is going to come next
Anonymous promptly added: - but not their colleagues.
I was just smiling coz I really didn’t want to discuss this with someone who thinks that I am not good enough to stay (and I think he must have thought that I did lot of chamchagiri) and I let him continue. He blabbered lot of stuff some personal some tricky and I showed that I am paying attention (I am good actress ;-))

When I thought about this incidence I felt sorry for him. I think it’s his loss if he makes himself think this way coz it’s not going to take him long. But I wonder do these people go far in their career and even if they reach top level do they have guts to survive? I believe in my work and I must admit I work in certain way plus I am pretty process oriented and particular. I do admit that I don’t change my views on things very easily and that might be taken in negative sense but my point is you prove that I am wrong and I am your slave else you don’t have any rights to tell me I am wrong (can you find anything wrong in my thinking?) I never let these games bother me or disturb me but yes I thought that this will be worth giving a thought. One of my friend told me I will come across lot of people like this in my life and I agree with him.

You guys must be waiting for my verdict. Right? Well initially I thought I won’t give any on this one but now I feel like giving one (obviously it feels good when you have importance and power ;-)) so here you go…

My Verdict on people who play unhealthy game: -IGNORE THEM. THEY ARE NOT WORTH ANYTHING AND FOR SURE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS……. ALWAYS REMEMBER HARD AND GOOD WORK NEVER GETS WASTED.

I totally agree with u. Office politics is everywhere. Even from a company of 10 employees to a company of 1000 employees; rather I should say thay wherever there are more than 3 people, there will be politics. Infact politics is a part of Life and we all need to ignore it because one person's competition (healthy) may be another person's politics (his interpretation of competition). These kind of stuff may happen even in a family, between bros n sis; etc. etc. I remember few lines mentioned in our school notice board:
Oh God, Give me the serenity to accept the things which I cannot change; Courage to change the things which I can and WISDOM to differentiate between the two
We cannot remove politics but can definitely try to convert it into healthy competition by changing the people's mindset.
